The pot might be bigger than we originally thought.
Even if you were to find this very spot I think you
would have to be very brave to try to take the gold
from this rabid Leprechaun. He just might bite your
ankles!
Hi Andrew, nah, not 3D just plain old digital 2D. I wanted to try to see if I could replicate some of your effects. Meh, not quite, but I did learn a lot. In the same time I think I could have built it in 3D and then I could have moved it around and gotten different viewpoints before I committed to the final work. Set different lights etc. Also I like the idea of making sets and characters and adapting them to different uses. I am very interested in rethinking computer art in general.
Soozcat, you hit the nail on the head... he is Humpty Dumpty as a Leprechaun ! Well done! I wanted to come after this from a different view-point, the egg idea expanded to another character. Humpdy Dumpty as a gold hording (golden center of egg) Leprechaun.
Humpty Dumpty actually was not a person or an egg... it was a huge cannon. It was used during the English Civil War ( 1642 - 1649) in the Siege of Colchester (13 Jun 1648 - 27 Aug 1648). Colchester was strongly fortified by the Royalists and was laid to siege by the Parliamentarians (Roundheads. In 1648 the town of Colchester was a walled town with a castle and several churches and was protected by the city wall. Standing immediately adjacent the city wall, was St Mary's Church. A huge cannon, colloquially called Humpty Dumpty, was strategically placed on the wall next to St Mary's Church.
June 15th 1648 - St Mary's Church is fortified and a large cannon is placed on the roof which was fired by ‘One-Eyed Jack Thompson.
July 14th / July 15th 1648 - The Royalist fort within the walls at St Mary's church is blown to pieces and their main cannon battery Humpty Dumpty is destroyed.
August 28th 1648 - The Royalists lay down their arms, open the gates of Colchester and surrender to the Parliamentarians
A shot from a Parliamentary cannon succeeded in damaging the wall beneath Humpty Dumpty which caused the cannon to tumble to the ground. The Royalists, or Cavaliers, 'all the King's men' attempted to raise Humpty Dumpty on to another part of the wall. However, because the cannon , or Humpty Dumpty, was so heavy ' All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpty together again!' This had a drastic consequence for the Royalists as the strategically important town of Colchester fell to the Parliamentarians after a siege lasting eleven weeks.
I love seeing where some of the ideas we hold sacred actually come from.
Hi Toni! I managed to get something done on time for once... Wow does this mean I'm growing up!?! Leprechauns have a rep for being nasty about who gets a hold of their gold and even if do find it, they will get you with some evil little plotsky. I think Leprechauns are now bank managers and insurance CEO's. Money, money! My mom got a bill from her Dr.s office for 25 cents that the insurance wouldn't cover! :)))))
Coreopsis thanks, I wish I could have gotten it moodier, but by the time I realized it, I would have had to rip it all apart and start over...I decided it was fine the way it was. :) Getting lazy in my old age! Or returning to sanity, take your pick! Yeah, that's right, it was the sane thing to do.:D
Rrrrr! Glad you liked it. I love St. Patrick's day, mainly because you don't have to buy any gifts ... not chintzy, but hate the enforced buying of the commercial holidays. Wear green or get pinched... I can handle that. Irish music, I love that and have enough to play for hours:) Never actually had green beer though>
I could really feel the pain in your drawing, rather took my breath away, a true emotional response, the best of what art can be.

See his eyes? Mean, gloating. The painting does look a tad sinister, if you ask me, with gloomy green parts. Playful, but a bit sinister.
I enjoyed the comment about him being like Humpty Dumpty...and bank people being the new leprechauns. Destruct elements, all...given that humpty dumpty was a cannon ball.
That history piece is wonderful. I never knew. I mean, I've known that the nursery rhymes were based on real life but I didn't know what humpty dumpty was.
Yeah, me too... I didn't do it, but found it, unfortunately didn't have a creator's name with it. I think it would be fun to try one. I'll bet you have made them before.
Tara, my mother used to say"my patience is getting spread thin" when I had pushed her to the limits. I knew it was time to back off, but I didn't really understand about thin patience until now. Mine is so thin lately you could read text written behind it. Maybe I should try one of these knot... I would either snap or get into the meditative side of it and chill the heck out! :)))
Oh but you do see what i mean right and also he has a son who is very talented too! As are you my dear pal!!! i really do think you are the female counterpart ;)
btw: Charlie at one time was one of the biggest selling artists around, if you said his name Everybody knew who you are talking about, everyone seemed to have or want one of his prints or paintings.
I did, I did see... believe it or not I didn't know of him, that's what happens when you live in the middle of nowhere. :))) That is the beauty of the internet, the ability to connect with people of like minds. The curse is it is overwhelming in it's mass of information. It is like being lost in the biggest library in the universe. The stacks go on for a lifetime of exploration.
Glennis...He cheats!!! You catch him and he just giggles and claps his hands, the light goes out and the next thing you know you are in your own bed with your head under the covers and your feet on your pillow. And to top it off, you have the worst headache of your life. After an hour and lots of aspirin etc...you wish the headache was gone. Bang! It is! That's when you realize you had a wish, and you just used it like a Tylenol! :(

ReplyDeleteYes, I've done a number of pieces with knotwork. A combination of pure tedium and meditative practice. I always end up enjoying them.
