This looks like one of those oh-so-fun "stream-of-conciousness" type paintings. A very "speedy" moving stream that is. (It's spring -- how appropriate). Very organic and beautiful.
Andrea, I pretended I was six and thought about how much I don't get jazz... I put a bunch of odd hues together and decorated it with inks and metalics...something I have wanted to try(the scan doesn't really show the effect) durn it was fun. Now I'm probably warped for life:))))
Val, are you better now? Here have some tea, thanks for coming by... let me get you some fluffy pillows and something for you to put your feet up on. Thanks for your visit and comment:)
I love this! I see plenty of speed in this piece. I see bunches of slithering snakes and lizards and reptiles speeding around in a room. I also love the colors that you used! Very eye catching. Great job!
Thanks Lou...jazz makes me think of snakes? What's up with that?!? Hehehe! Maybe the notes slither around so fast I can't hear them and I know it:))) I'm not scared of snakes, but once in high school I stepped up to a deep sink in the biology dept and just about gasped out a lung... the teacher was washing his collection of preserved snakes, so the sink was filled with coiled up snakes of every kind. Once I could breathe again(and everyone had stopped laughing) I did notice that snakes have the loveliest patterns. Clear memory and yes this picture does in fact remind me of that day...... but I was thinking of Jazz when I painted it!?!?!
Maybe you did your own thing here but it does express fast movement to me. To bad scans cannot show the metalic in it. The colors are great and so is the texture. I love organic looking paintings and this is one of them. Isn't it fun to just slither around paint and let it speak to you.
There you are – thanks for stopping by and commenting. Come back anytime. Bad is as bad does. You do it soooooo well. Standing ovations for jazzy illo.
It would be bad if you DIDN'T do you own "thang." To me, he looks like a giant mutant octopus with tusks, but I guess that's just because I've been watching old Dr. Who episodes. Cool job
No, you're not bad...you're badass! (I hope you know that I mean that in the nicest way:>) This is very cool, and it does have a speedy feeling to it. The lines show so much movement and there's a vortex like feeling created by the blue cirlce near the top. I love the colors, too...very much like the seashore (I think there's an octopus thingie in there...)...like the swirling waves in a small inlet. It's very organic looking, familiar but mysterious. How does a painting like this come to be?
Being Bad and doing your own thing created a great image. Keep being free! I'm with Carla on the vortex feeling except I want to be pulled in on the bottom right into the yellow corner - thats where I find my eyes falling wondering where this deep abyss will take me._Thanks Ldahl for the free trip! :-)
Alina Chau, thank you! Your comment means alot to me:)
Aynaku Bless your heart! Thank you!!!!!
Fenris I'm really enjoying exploring again! I'm thinking about selling this one and it's sister painting that is about half finished.
Detlef said... I like your comments:) Thanks!!!!
Rrramone I am doing more "BAD" thangs... I can't find the off button... it's not my fault!:)))
TXArtcGal, I'm glad too... mostly I'm glad people seem to like these as much as I like to do them.
Toni Kelly You are so right about the scans, because it really looks better in "person". Yes it is... too much fun!!
Thanks Albina... You have some of the most beautiful things on your blog, I will be back to visit you:) of course!
Ellen I should have done bluegrass ....it's even faster:)))
AscenderRisesAbove Yeh, watercolor, I have only a couple of these in oil, I keep thinking about doing more, but the smell is always a problem..... I need more space:))))
Tony LaRocca Thanks Tony!! Tom Baker ones??? Love that Dr. Who!!!
Modroom..... Heh heh heh!!!!! Yep, and getting worse every day!
Bubblegum, well at least it's not boring:))) And that is ALWAYS GOOD!!!
Mark, right now the world is weighing just a bit too much, so I'm just keeping on with the things for me (paintings that is) Might just keep me from the rabbit hole:)
Carla, yeh, badass... I love that!!! I try keep my mind on a subject... after a bit I forget the painting and the subject and the painting does itself.:) Thanks for your most thoughtful comment..... I did a lot of thinking about Jazz coming from the blues and Africa etc when working on this one... if you look at it again you may notice the blue heart(vortex) and see there is almost a looking down at the land feeling too.
Wilnara Thank you, I believe I am going to keep on keeping on being free, I'm learning again, so that is a real plus as far as I am concerned.
vfm4 I am!! I don't know if I'll ever come back, I may have just tripped over the edge:))) Grandson is tooooooooo cute for words, thank you so very much for asking:) He is trying to talk already, it's so funny because he is very expressive:))))
Jocelyn Thank ye kindly me dear smoochy Tart:)
Thank you Cream... it's fun to pack a lot of detail into a small space, I'm wanting to do some bigger ones and have gotten some nice paper to try it soon.
Chuang Shyue Chou, thanks... I think they might just keep on being different and more and more different. I want to see how far I can take this.
Bingo and Betty, thank you! I'm compelled every so often to sneak off and do these abstracts:)))
Awesome interpretation. Superb energy in the piece. So interesting that I have been staring into it for a long long time. I am staring to see jazz now. :)

Hmmmm...the intricacy of the design and colour does replicate thought patterns and imagery of jazz. Nicely done. I Love it!!!!
Another interesting illustration. watercolor? If these are snakes; is that a robin's egg sun? Love the earthy colors.

Bad? You're diabolical!!
Sometimes you need to do something for you, just to help relieve the weight of the world...
